Mozarthaus Mozart Concert – Sala Terrena

Experience a true piece of musical history with the Mozarthaus Mozart Concert in Vienna. There are larger classical concerts in Vienna, and grander ones — but none older, and none where Mozart actually performed. The Sala Terrena, hidden inside the Church of the Teutonic Order on Singerstraße, holds just 60 people beneath frescoed Renaissance walls.

Mozart played here in 1781. Sitting in this room is as close as Vienna lets you get to hearing his music where he heard it.

Scale is the whole experience. As Vienna’s oldest concert hall, this intimate space has only 60 seats. There is no distant stage and no amplification — just four musicians a few metres away and acoustics built centuries before microphones existed. Every phrase reaches you directly — the way chamber music Vienna has preserved in its oldest halls was always meant to travel.

The Mozart Ensemble Wien carries the evening: founded in 1998 by violinist Claudio Bentes and now a familiar name on Vienna’s music scene. As the finest string quartet Vienna has welcomed to this stage since 1998, they perform in the traditional formation of two violins, viola, and cello, drawing on the core Viennese Classical repertoire — Mozart, Haydn, Schubert, Bach, and Beethoven.
